Introduction to Topics
Messagepedia Topics are peer-to-peer workspaces for securely and privately syncing, sharing, collaborating, and managing content among trusted peers. Topics are end-to-end encrypted and no one other than invited members can access them.
If you create a Topic, you will be the Owner with complete control over it. You can Share and Unshare files; Post and Recall messages including web links; and Add and Remove members. Members can be Contributors or Reviewers. While all members can View shared files, and Post and Recall messages, only Contributors can Edit existing files, and Share and Unshare new files. A member can always Leave a Topic, but only you, the Owner, can ever Archive or Delete it. When you Archive a Topic, all members continue to have access, but no one can Share and Unshare new files, or Post and Recall new messages to it. The Topic is essentially frozen until you Unarchive it. When you Delete a Topic, however, it will be permanently deleted for everyone.
In a nutshell, Topics are shared folders with role-based access control that are replicated among trusted peers. As you can with files in a folder, you can 2-click on a file in a Topic to automatically open it with an associated application on your computer. If you modify the file and save it, a new version is created and saved. You can access both new and old version(s) in the same Topic. You can also drag files in and out of a Topic to your computer as needed.
Files can be of any size. Need to share a 1GB multi-media presentation? Just drop it in a Topic and it will be shared will all members of that Topic.
Members of a Topic can be anywhere. They can be even outside your company, such as your customers and partners. It is very secure...only Members of the Topic can access it. Furthermore, all messages and files are always encrypted, even while in transit, so no one other than the intended recipients can view them.
You can also install and setup Messagepedia software on a server that is always online that you (and your colleagues) can invite to your Topics so that it can serve as your “proxy” when you are offline and make your Topics always available to other members.
